چکیده

Context-aware search in mobile web environments demands new retrieval methods that rank web resources based on the proximity to users’ locations. This paper presents the indexing and ranking architecture of a new geographic web retrieval system that can accept the user location as input and ranks searched items based on the estimated distances between the users and the resources. We describe the criteria to be considered by a geographic similarity metric and the indexing data structures that we created for fast selection of web resouces based on proximity.

Spatially-aware Information Retrieval on the Internet Report on Spatial Indexing Methods

The design of efficient indexing structures is central to the performances of very large databases such as the web collections. Within the SPIRIT framework the challenge is to adapt ideas from the well-researched topics of text based information retrieval and geographical information systems for a spatially aware search engine. This document reports on the existing methods for both these areas ...

یک روش مبتنی بر خوشه‌بندی سلسله‌مراتبی تقسیم‌کننده جهت شاخص‌گذاری اطلاعات تصویری

It is conventional to use multi-dimensional indexing structures to accelerate search operations in content-based image retrieval systems. Many efforts have been done in order to develop multi-dimensional indexing structures so far. In most practical applications of image retrieval, high-dimensional feature vectors are required, but current multi-dimensional indexing structures lose their effici...

Geographic Information Retrieval and the World Wide Web: A Match Made in Electronic Space

This article looks at the access to geographic information through a review of information science theory and its application to the WWW. The two most common retrieval systems are information and data retrieval. A retrieval system has seven elements: retrieval models, indexing, match and retrieval, relevance, order, query languages and query specification. The goal of information retrieval is t...

Investigating Summarization Techniques for Geo-Tagged Image Indexing

Images with geo-tagging information are increasingly available on the Web. However, such images need to be annotated with additional textual information if they are to be retrievable, since users do not search by geo-coordinates. We propose to automatically generate such textual information by (1) generating toponyms from the geo-tagging information (2) retrieving Web documents using toponyms a...

SIREn: Entity Retrieval System for the Web of Data

We present ongoing work on the Semantic Information Retrieval Engine (SIREn), an “entity retrieval system” specifically designed to meet the requirements of indexing and searching a large amount of semi-structured data, e.g. the entire Web of Data. SIREn supports efficient full text search with semi-structural queries and exhibits a concise index, constant time updates and inherits Information ...
